A Gentle Black Cat’s Journey from Cairo to a Family Who Adores Him

Onyx’s Story

Onyx is a rescued cat from Cairo, now safe and cherished in his forever home in the US.

One of the most heart-wrenching yet inspiring journeys we’ve ever witnessed has finally reached its happy ending. Onyx — the gentle, resilient black cat from Cairo who once lay trembling in pain after a brutal attack — is home. He’s safe. He’s loved. He’s been adopted into a forever family in the USA who sees not his scars, but his heart.

Back in the spring of 2024, our team in Cairo received an urgent call: a passerby had found a black cat barely clinging to life. His eye was severely injured, his jaw broken, and his small body soaked in blood. He had been hit with a pipe, and his meows were weak and pleading.

Thanks to the swift action of our rescue partners and immediate support from donors around the world, Onyx underwent emergency surgery. His jaw was successfully repaired, allowing him to eat without pain again, and his damaged eye was treated. Beneath all the grime and fleas, a sleek black coat emerged.

Slowly but surely, Onyx began to heal — not just physically, but emotionally. He craved cuddles, gave nose kisses to the vet techs, and purred the moment someone sat beside him. He wasn’t just recovering; he was coming back to life. By July, he had a confirmed adopter in Baltimore ready to welcome him home.

And now it’s real. Onyx is no longer a cat fighting to survive in Cairo — he is a beloved pet, curled up in soft blankets in a warm home, cherished and protected. To every single person who donated, shared his story, and rooted for him: you did this. Onyx is safe. Onyx is loved. Onyx is home.
